How does a session of individual therapy look like?

It is wise to get to know each other at the beginning in order to responsibly decide which  sort of therapy is required. A psychoanalytic therapy session requires a frequency of two to three times a week to achieve the desired effect.  The sessions usually take place laying since it makes the work with free associations more accessible.  At the beginning and in special cases it is possible to hold a session sitting down. One session lasts 50 minutes and takes place in preset times binding for both parties.

How long does psychoanalytical psychotherapy take time?

The therapy lasts as long as the patient feels that he is getting benefits out of it. Generally you should expect a time period of months or even years. This time range is necessary in order to achieve changes in personality. The process includes stages that cannot be accelerated. It took considerably, long sometimes a lifetime, for the symptoms to develop. Therefore, you shouldn't expect for an easy and fast solution to achieve long-lasting effect. Although it plays an essential role, psychoanalytical  treatment doesn't concentrate solely on the current relief but furthermore orientates on  the causes of the current state. The recognition of the causes doesn't only make the healing process possible it can also accomplish healing up which is the ambitious goal of psychoanalytical psychotherapy.

Who participates in the therapy?

Attending individual therapy is only the patient and the therapist. It is currently not possible to take along a third person. Everything that happens during therapy underlies to duty of confidentiality. Both partners are present during couple's therapy at all times. The only exception occurs when during the first session we agree with one of the partners on couple's therapy being more necessary than individual therapy. In such case the other partner is also offered one individual session. Family therapy requires all family members sharing one household present in all sessions
